Kassidy Powell- museum

I think that the piece that I found would definitely be considered art. The darkness of the background against the body of the bishop guy was so contrasting with the actual face and the shadows of the bishop and the decapitated head in front of him, that it struck me as art. As for where the piece was located, honestly it was stuck in the far back corner near an exit. Almost like it was shoved into the corner so that no one would have to look at it. In the National Galley of Art, which I visited in seventh grade, there is this hall that I simply referred to as the “hall of boobs” because it was this old timey hall filled with paintings of naked women. When I first went to the Palmer Museum back in June, I was mainly going to see the Plastic Entanglements collection because I thought that it would be really interesting (which it was). On my walk up the steps,  I kind of just glanced through the rest of the rooms because I was mainly interested in getting to the Entanglements collection. After walking through the collection, I looked through the rest of the rooms and when I came upon the room that reminded me of the hall of boobs from the National Gallery of Art, I walked in, looked at a few paintings, and then left. The whole room just held the connotation of  that hall and I didn’t give too much thought to it. When we went back this week to the museum, I wandered around and went into that hall because it was where none of the loud people were going and I wanted to be quiet. Standing in front of that painting, in the back corner, by itself, I just kind of got stuck on the look of “dude you messed up” in the eyes of the bishop-man looking over the head on a stake. His eyes were so dark and realistic looking that all  I could think about was, “Wow. He has no sympathy for the head.” And the eyes are what really got to me. When I sat there and looked at the image it astonished me just how much his eyes were unsympathetic. He did not care at all about what was going on to the head in front of him. But I also thought that was really cool because it was like alright, there’s a head here. I think the placement in the museum is mostly because it’s kind of a garish painting and not something that most people are going to come back and look at. But I really liked it so I did.
