Brittany Rose - Final Project Proposal
I really enjoy photographing people, and I think I want to play into that. I have also found the idea of distinct generations in people and their characteristics to be highly interesting as well. Like the social gap, if something is wrong at a restaurant my father is more likely to complain and tip poorly whereas I am more likely to not do anything and understand that said person is just trying to do their job and will still tip well. I find generational gaps like that to be highly interesting. So for my final, I am thinking somewhere along the lines of what it is like to be the youth in 2018. But that is a massive undertaking in that category so I wouldn't be able to go all that in depth in just that topic, that is the only real problem I see. The main pieces I would like to focus on is the good, the bad, and the ugly. Like the average everyday things, the colors, the feelings, the games, how we interact with each other. That's what I would like to photograph. I think it is mainly for myself in the idea that I would like to understand more, I read and watch countless things on all the other generations but no one is able to define even a rough idea of what the kids born around 1998 - 2001 are. Half the world says we are millennials others gen z. We don't identify with the kids eating tide pods but we can't remember 9/11. We are if you will, a generation without a home. I want to photograph that, and I honestly think I can do it - we are the generation that is the bridge between my father who takes 10 minutes to type a sentence and those kids who come out knowing how to use an iPhone, I remember my mother's first iPhone (I also remember not being allowed to touch it) but I also remember her Nokia, and razor, and that cool phone with the mirror on the back for selfies. So to recap, I want to photograph "the generation without a home" in their lives, the good, the bad, and the ugly. What we do and the vibe of why we do it. I think that would be interesting and challenging and something I could be really creative in. Most of all though - I think I would really enjoy it (I already have a color scheme idea in my head).
