Emma Kollmar - Final Proposal

For my final project i want to photograph people's accessories. The accessories people wear can tell you a lot about someone. It is a way for people to express themselves. Things like jewelry, headbands, scarves, watches, nail polish, ties, belts,bags, ties, and more add to an outfit and what a person is looks like. It could change how other people view them because each accessory could mean something different to every person who sees them and they make their own judgments about them. I think accessories are really important for people to be able to express themselves. Coming from a Catholic Highschool where uniforms were required everyday, there was not much room for expression. We couldn't express ourselves through our clothing so accessories were the only way we could do that. I think clothing can tell you a lot about a person too, but since we all wore uniforms it was hard to tell what someone was like without getting to know them.  I want to photograph everyone's unique way of expressing themselves through the accessories wear. I will accomplish this by seeing the different accessories people around me are wearing and ask them if i can photograph them. I think accessories are a really great way to separate ourselves from others so we don't all look the same. These photos will show everyone at Penn State's uniqueness and how they express themselves and what makes them different than everyone else.
