Art museum
The painting that caught my eye the most was
Self portrait as the other thief by Julia Hefferson.
Art can be defined as the expression of human
creativity and imagination in a tangible form, and
this painting definitely fits with that definition.
Originally it caught my attention with its vibrant
and bright colors, and then the intricate details
allowed me to really dive into the painting. At first
glance some of the aspects seem a little out of
place, like the wooden figures burning in the
background and the worn down historical
monuments suspended in a large tree. There
was also a toppled egyptian statue in the area
behind the tree. People who were barely clothed
stood at the base of the tree holding tools and
rope. After absorbing the art piece for a while,
I started to put pieces together and develop an
idea for what the work was all about. The wooden
figures in the background were on fire and
represented the fading away of the past religious,
political, and philosophical mentalities that have
failed humanity and brought us down. The people
at the base of the tree are hanging monuments
and pieces of the failed lifestyles high in the
canopy to form somewhat of a history museum
out of the tree. This way, the past can be looked
back on from a perspective of modern people that
will learn from mistakes of the people that came
before them. The painting “Self Portrait as the Other
Thief” was located in a large room that held about a
dozen other painting all by Julia Hefferson. All of the
paintings were very large and had similar color schemes.
The spot for this specific painting was appropriate as it was
in a room with many other paintings sharing the same themes.
