For my final project in this class I want to capture the things here at Penn State that remind me of home. Coming from Long Island and being only minutes away from Manhattan, moving out here to State College is the middle of nowhere to me. For me before I moved here Pennsylvania is just farms, the amish, Hershey, Philly and Penn State campus. I’m not used to trees or bunnies. But over time I’ve fallen in love with state college and it’s relaxed atmosphere. However, Long Island will still always be my home and where I love the most. I think anyone can agree that the transition into college is different and a large adjustment you have to conquer in life. State College is definitely not New York, the people are way nicer, life is more laid back, everything doesn't feel as rushed, there's no building here that have over 100 floors and there's actual plant life. However I have seeked out small elements that remind me of home. I want to capture this and show how you can always find a little bit of home no matter where you are. Capturing 12 different aspects of my life here, that mimic my life on the south shore of Long Island will be an experience. They may not be the most obvious because there's no beaches, quality pizza or bagels, but there are some things here that evoke a feeling like I’m home. Long blocks full of stores, different cuisines of food, 3am Mcdonalds runs, insane football games, school pride and so much more that I hope to get across. To make this small portfolio of work I would first probably compile a list of things that remind me of home and then go throughout my few days left here, with my camera at all times right by my side. After taking hundreds of pictures and narrowing them down to 12, I would want to edit them and then create some type of diptych of a picture I also took at home. The reasoning for this is to further more express my story and meaning. I’m excited to tell the story of life on Long Island through the small, town of State College.
