The points that Jessica Leigh Maddox argued in " Fear in Selfie-Loathing in America" go against what most people think that selfies are. In my opinion I do not see how taking a selfie with friends or family is selfish. Many times people want to take selfies to be funny, to send them to people, or remember the time they are having. They don't take them to be selfish towards people around them. They only way I think selfies could be selfish is if you take it with a group of people and leave someone out. I believe that selfies are no different then any other picture. Although one is taken with someone in the picture holding the camera and other pictures are taken by someone who is not in the picture. That doesn't mean that they are different in any why. Why do you take pictures of people, family, and nature. I take pictures to remember the time, place, and the memories that we will remember through that picture. It doesn't matter if it is a hand held picture or a picture taken by someone else. People over look the meaning of pictures all of the time. Some see one picture as something while others see if completely different. The owner of the selfie does not always star in the picture. Sometimes people take selfies to capture the background, or to capture a famous person. Selfies aren't always to see the people in them, they might have been taken because something cool behind someone was going on. Selfies can allow people to put their own meanings on it, so can other pictures. I could take a picture of a bunny with a lot of people in the background. Someone could look at that image and completely forget about the bunny and look at the people. They could say that I took that picture because someone on the background was sticking their tongue out. So selfies aren't the only pictures that could have many different means. Many people do over look the importance of selfies. People think that selfies are the lazy way of taking pictures. The people that take selfies are to lazy to ask people to take there picture, or to get up and take the picture themselves. Selfies could have the same importance to one person as does another picture. I don't agree with many of the views Jessica has on selfies.
